Union Badge Welcome in CommCentre
Last week,
Northern Communications Centre Management instructed staff to remove
Union Badges from uniform stating that the wearing of them "is to be
discontinued immediately, as per National Commanders instruction."
Your Union was very surprised to learn of
the reference to the National Commander when he has previously
indicated his acceptance of wearing the badge.
Neither the Central or Southern Communication Centres have received
such a direction. This "National Commanders instruction"
appears to have originated not from Mike Hall's office but from
within NorthComms.
The National Commander agrees and has responded to members concerns
through FireNet's Rumour Mill:
"I have no problem with
staff wearing the NZPFU collar pins whilst on duty."
The NZPFU is a key partner
with the Fire Service in delivering the Fire Service's strategic vision. Through
this Partnership Protocol, Fire Service senior managers and NZPFU national
executive members agreed to grow trust while respecting each others' roles and
responsibilities.
Northern ComCen Managers have been caught out this time
and will now need to earn the trust and respect from their staff. It
brings into question the credibility and validity of issues that may arise from
Shift Managers Meetings when this instruction has been found to be incorrect.
Members should continue to wear their NZPFU Badge should they desire.
