:: Methodology - How was
this data calculated? |
-
A spreadsheet was used to identify Statutory
Holidays worked, Statutory Holidays worked plus Statutory Holidays
which fall during leave and total annual leave days. These
calculations were undertaken on every watch and leave group for 20
years from the year 2004. Ie. 4 watches of 10 leave groups from
2004 to 2025.
-
The spreadsheet was formatted with every day of
the year adjacent to the vertical axis and every watch and leave
group along the horizontal axis (ie. 40 groups).
-
Each watch work and leave cycle was inserted into
the respective groups. The 160 day cycle per leave group is made
up of 18 cycles of 5 shifts on and 3 shifts off followed by leave
of 14 days followed by 2 off days. Each shift was explicitly
described with the hours actually worked so that these could be
identified. This cycle was repeated for 20 years.
-
Statutory Holidays were then entered alongside the
days of the year in which they fall. Days of the week were also
entered for the purpose of mondayising. The mondayising rules
were applied to the four Christmas and New Year Holidays.
-
The data was then sorted to filter days of each
watch and leave group that fell on Statutory Holidays.
-
The original spreadsheet was kept so that a count
of annual leave days could also be made.
-
Data was then counted for each of the 40 leave
groups for each of the 20 years. Calculations were made for both
the calendar year and the April year commencing 1 April.
-
Statutory Holidays worked plus Statutory Holidays
which fall during leave and total annual leave days were counted.
-
The results were put into a format that could be
described and interpreted.
