Fire Service senior managers and Professional Firefighters
Union national executive members met in Wellington to hammer out an
agreement about the way the two groups will work together.
The meeting was facilitated by Peter Berry who has had 13' years
experience in the union movement, where his last role was as a union
official with the Australian Building Worker's Industrial Union.
In this role he worked on creating a partnership approach with
industry.
The agreement will be signed by Mike Hall and Vince Arbuckle for
the Fire Service and Mike McEnaney and Derek Best for the union:

We will work together to respond to community needs and to
achieve a world class fire and rescue service. We will work
co-operatively to match resources to risk in an equitable manner.

We agree to shape common values and grow trust while
respecting each others' roles and responsibilities.

We commit to a safe, healthy and satisfied workforce. We
agree that responsibility and accountability for problem solving
should be set at the lowest appropriate level. Information
should be shared in a timely manner to assist informed
consultation.

in signing this Partnership Protocol, we record our genuine
commitment to al of the principles of partnership. We agree
to meet again in twelve months to review these protocols and our
progress toward giving effect to these principles.

We commit to meeting regularly on the following basis:

National - 6 weekly

Regional - Quarterly

District - 6 monthly
