Fire Appliance
Crash
Last night (19 May) at approximately 6:30 pm the
Silverdale Pump/ Rescue Tender crashed while responding to a call.
The crash occurred on Wainui Road about 10 kilometres from
Silverdale station. The appliance was one of several responding to
a report of a house fire in that area. The appliance was the only
vehicle involved in the crash. It rolled once landing on its
wheels on the roadway.
All five crew members were wearing seat belts. The
three in the back were uninjured. The driver has a fractured elbow
and the officer was kept in hospital overnight with a sore back
and neck. It has been confirmed he has no spinal injuries.
The Police Serious Crash Unit are investigating
the accident as a matter of routine, and the appliance has been
impounded until the internal Fire Service investigation is
completed.
