Members will be aware of a Detective Sergeant Salter being employed by FENZ as an Area Manager’s Assistant (AMA) in Area 3.
The Auckland Local was asked by AM O’Donoghue for its opinion/advice about engaging Detective Sergeant Salter, who was originally employed as a SFRM Officer, into the AMA Role.
The Local responded to AM ODonoghue, as per the attached letter, saying that it would not endorse the proposal for the stated reasons. AM O’Donoghue, however, has chosen to ignore the Local’s advice and has proceeded with the appointment of Detective Sergeant Salter to the AMA Role.
The Local strongly believes, as per its reply, that this is an operational role specifically implemented to give suitably qualified operational officers developmental opportunities towards Executive Officer roles.
This appointment serves no benefit in that regard to both FENZ and our operational officers. Therefore, the Local has not endorsed this appointment and having our members working alongside this individual in Acting AAM roles encourages Management into thinking the Union sanctions such moves at the expense of developmental opportunities for our Local members.
Having ignored the Local’s advice and objection to this appointment, the Local has no option but to ask its members who are currently seconded to AAM roles in Area 3 to return to their normal operational positions and have nothing to do with encouraging this sort of unqualified lateral appointment to the detriment of its members.
The Auckland Local’s position is clear in that it will not support or encourage members to take secondments alongside unqualified people appointed into Executive Officer roles. To do so will only aid and abet unqualified lateral entry into our operational ranks.
