The NZPFU now has a charter between the National Union, Branches and Locals which establishes a framework for communication and professional behaviour
within the Union to promote transparency and fairness in the interaction between all facets of the Union.
The Charter developed out of a process which started with the National Committee and Auckland Local starting to draft a Memorandum of Understanding when
meeting to discuss the expulsions and the circumstances that gave rise to the expulsions.
The Committee considered the content of the drafts were a positive tool for the union as a whole and all Branches and Locals became involved and further
work was undertaken by Conference last year. There were numerous changes and amendments as the document went through that process until agreement was
reached across all Branches and Locals.
The attached Charter is the result and has been written to assist in building relationships and trust with each other to better inform and influence outcomes
so that all parties can focus on improving the working lives of the membership, preserve the reputation of the Union and its Officials, and to provide
a transparent and fair process for dealing with any disputes arising within the union structure.
The Charter has been embraced by all Locals, Branches and National Council and Committee members. It is a proactive and positive tool and all election nomination forms now include agreement to the Charter. This will ensure all Union officials and representatives understand and have access to our union processes and communication.
