The Local wishes to thank all members for the collective effort displayed at the recent Sky City Convention Centre Fire.

This was an incredibly difficult, complex and demanding event, the likes of which have not been experienced in Auckland for many years. It is a testament to Career Professional Firefighters’ training, qualifications and experience.

What shone through was how the incident was able to be managed without major injury to firefighters, despite the limitations enforced on us through a lack of specialist firefighting resources.

The Auckland Local has received concerns from members centred around:

  • fatigue management
  • crew rotation
  • availability call-backs
  • specialist appliance operator availability
  • lack of ablution facilities

The Local requests that members with these or any other experiences and concerns put those in writing and send to AuckLocalSecretary@nzpfu.org.nz. Furthermore, members are strongly encouraged to also enter any safety and well-being concerns through an appropriate entry in the Safe@Work Kiosk.

We will then compile these official statements and raise our concerns with FENZ Regional Management, asking for them to be included in the operational review.

All statements will be kept strictly confidential to the Local Committee at the members’ request.

If any members have any questions on the above, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a Committee member.
