A significant win for the Union and Firefighters – Gratuities

One of the reductions in conditions of employment introduced in the Fire and Emergency N.Z. legislation was the removal of the provision to provide Gratuities to Firefighters.

However, the Commission has advised that Career Firefighters – both those employed on 1 July 2017 and those employed after 1 July 2017 will continue to receive a Gratuity as at present.

Bowing to the strong representation from the Union, this is one of the very few good and proper decisions the Commission has made in the last few years.

At the appropriate time the Union will seek to have the Collective Agreement appropriately modified to formally provide for a Gratuity for all members.
