DAY ELEVEN: Media and more station visits

Alex Forrest has taken every opportunity to educate firefighters and the media across the country and today, his last day in NZ, was no exception.

Early morning Alex was at Te Atatu Station with firefighters from around the District piling in to hear the message. Newshub covered that meeting and will cover the issue of firefighters occupational cancer in the news this evening.

Next was Mt Wellington where firefighters, trainers and aviation firefighters gathered to meet Alex.

In between radio interviews, Alex visited Papatoetoe Fire Station to another full house of firefighters coming in from neighbouring stations.

Auckland firefighter Jeff Shrimpton has been driving us around and his personal experience with cancer is moving testament to the need for presumptive legislation and for occupational hygiene best practice.

Election of Rotorua Local President

Last Friday (15^th March 2024) NZPFU Tauranga and Kawerau Local Secretaries and Presidents and I met with National Commander Russell Woods, District Manager Jeff Maunder and Workplace Relations Senior Advisor Mike Todd in Tauranga.

Refusal of FENZ to Honour Travel Time Agreement

The Auckland Local has been working on behalf of members since mid-January to resolve the issue of legitimate travel time payments declined while attending training courses throughout Tāmaki Makaurau and at the Auckland Regional Training Centre.
