Members are advised that Arapawa Regional Management have recommended the amalgamation of the Wellington North and South Districts to occur, subject to Commission approval, on 1 December 2004.

Notwithstanding Union concerns related to reasons for the amalgamation (essentially a trade off of a CFO positions for a pay rise) the Local intends writing to the Regional Commander requesting a meeting to discuss and resolve particular operational matters affecting members as a result of the proposed amalgamation.

Any members who have particular concerns should approach their Local officials to ensure these can be resolved or tabled also.

Of particular concern to the Local and National Union at this time is the intention of management to essentially place the incumbent management of North and South into the roles of CFO and two DCFO’s without advertising the positions.

The proposed amalgamation of the two Districts will create the largest District in the country with 9 Stations (and presumably the largest remuneration for the management of it).

Clearly it is a new District and the positions of CFO and the DCFO’s should be advertised so that all eligible applicants can apply.

Members are reminded that when the amalgamation of the two Christchurch Districts occurred recently to create one District the positions were advertised and an SSO was the successful applicant for the CFO position.

The Union is seeking legal advice as to what action is possible to ensure all eligible members have the opportunity to apply should the Commission approve the change.

Correspondence with the Regional Commander will advise him of these concerns also and the intention of the Local to ensure all those eligible have the opportunity to apply.

Members will be kept informed of future developments.
