Local Election Nomination Process

Members have been asking how they go about applying for positions in this years Local elections.

The elections are for Local ie. (Auckland, Timaru etc) President, Vice President, Secretary (role descriptions available here) and Local Committee members.

Members who wish to be involved in any of these positions print off the Election Nomination Form and get 2 financial members to (1) nominate you and (2) second the nomination. You then sign the nomination form and scan and email it or hard copy it to the returning officers address as per their notice.

Local Committees are run differently across the country, as a committee member you will be required to attend and participate in Local meetings of the Union. You could be responsible for a specific Local portfolio depending on your own interest or skill set. Depending on the size of your Local, you may be responsible for maintaining/building a relationship with managers and HR people, you will definitely be communicating with our members about what the Local is up to and what National and Branch are up to. Communication is key for our members. Local committee members are often used as SME’s in projects and working parties or for identifying specialists that we can utilise.
