The Working Party is making good progress on finalizing the details of a changed training and progression system.

One of the major final issues being considered is the ability of existing members to have recognition of prior learning.

Any translation to TAPs must not disadvantage existing members in terms of the qualifications they presently hold.

It is anticipated therefore that the new proposed qualifications will be retrospectively awarded to all members relative to the rank presently held.

In anticipation of TAPs introduction (which will require ratification by members), the Union and Fire Service have agreed that members be encouraged to hook onto the NZQA.

Many members are already hooked on for the purposes of recognizing training packages for such things as First Aid, Driving, CIMS and USAR.

There is no obligation to hook onto NZQA at this time. However, members are encouraged to do so, so that recognition of achievements can be recorded.
