As members will be aware, several health and safety concerns were raised with Fire and Emergency by the Local with respect to the commissioning exercises undertaken at the City Rail Link.

Fire and Emergency has acknowledged these concerns and the fact that the process could have been handled better.

FENZ has agreed to establish a working group to address the safety concerns raised, such as Communications, Fixed Firefighting Systems, Built Environment, Operational Doctrine, Training and Operations, Site Tactical Planning, People Communications, and Union Representation.

This working group will be led by an operational member on a black watch secondment, with the Team Lead and Working Group responsible for developing comprehensive safe systems of work to protect firefighters and the public.

It is hoped that an Expression of Interest for the Team Lead, including a position description for the role, will go out on Monday, and we encourage our members to apply.

With the safety concerns being addressed, and FENZ working with the Union and Health and Safety Representatives, it is safe to proceed with ongoing commissioning exercises conducted in the City Rail Link.
