FENZ ATTEMPTING TO BYPASS UNION ON TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The NZPFU understands that some members have been engaging in groups organised by FENZ on matters that will affect the terms and conditions of employment of our members.  These are matters that need to be negotiated and agreed – not workshopped.

For example, we understand there are NZPFU members involved in groups discussing fatigue policies and FENZ’s desire to impose an impairment policy.

We understand that some members responses to FENZ requesting expressions of interests for such groups and members may think they are being helpful.  But the reality is that these are all serious issues that could result in changes to your terms and conditions of employment, and impact your security of employment.

The answer to many issues is an increase in staffing.  This is occurring while FENZ is driving down the number of career firefighters and attempting to reduce emergency response.  This is also occurring when FENZ should be coming back to the bargaining table to present a new and improved offer.

No one has been authorised by the NZPFU to engage in these matters.

The NZPFU is not participating in Eke Tumata as this is another vehicle FENZ uses to try and change terms and conditions through policy and then claim membership participation is consultation in accordance with the collective agreement.

Any members currently participating are asked to cease participation now.

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary
