Members are advised it is not in your interests to participate in FENZ’s health monitoring survey.

Last week, without any heads up, FENZ sent out an email link to a survey.

We have previously provided information demonstrating it was not in members’ interest to participate in the health monitoring project. For the earlier notice click here.

We have a national representative on that project and our concerns remain. FENZ did not inform that group or our representative of any intention to conduct this survey, which indicates they are not genuinely consulting and are deliberately not being transparent. We have no information on the methodology of the survey, the validity of the questions, or how your information will be used.

It is the NZPFU’s strong view that FENZ is intending to undermine and weaken the NZPFU Health Monitoring programme that we achieved in the 2022 collective agreement settlement, which has already saved lives. FENZ wants to put a sunset clause on that programme so that it can control the type of testing, who does the testing, and who has the information. The NZPFU programme is effective and scientifically based. Your medical information is kept confidential and FENZ does not have access. We have had experience of other programmes run by FENZ where FENZ has received personal medical information they were not entitled to and have misused that information to put an employee’s employment in jeopardy.

The fact that FENZ has released this survey without any prior notification is a good indication of their attitude to our members and their health and wellbeing.

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary
