FENZ has recently announced its final decisions for the People Branch which includes the establishment of key national positions in safety, health and wellbeing, training and workforce capability.

The NZPFU is strongly of the view that these are important roles that a strong operational background to ensure the strategy and initiatives are appropriately designed and delivered in a pragmatic way. This is an opportunity for professional career firefighters to step up to take roles within this leadership team to ensure key issues central to the operation and sustainability of a fire and emergency service, including workforce planning and building operational capacity are strategically and pragmatically determined and implemented.

The positions include National Manager People Experience, National Manager People Services, National Manager People and Workforce Capability, National Manager Workplace Culture and Change, Chief Advisor Volunteerism, Chief Advisor Safety, Health and Wellbeing and Chief Advisor Key Relationships.

There are professional career firefighters that have relevant tertiary qualifications and experiences in addition to their comprehensive operational experience and qualifications. We have members that would be strong candidates for these roles and that the organisation would benefit from their skills and experience.

FENZ has provided CV assistance and interview preparation to some within the organisation but that offer has not been extended to professional career firefighters.

The NZPFU is willing to assist members who have the relevant qualifications and experience and are considering applying for these roles with preparation for their applications. If you are considering applying please ring the National Secretary Wattie Watson (021 928 819), National President Ian Wright (021 497 448) or National Vice President Joseph Stanley (027 659 9965).

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary
