The Local has written to Regional Manager Butt regarding Privacy Act breaches and bullying and harassment issues arising out of ‘friendly chats’ AM Cocker has been having with members.

The Union has received complaints from members regarding AM Cocker’s behaviour and claims, and exposure of medical information and sick leave usage.

He has also made threats of non-advancement, and intimidation of possible medical boarding for use of legal sick leave taken in accordance with all contractual obligations.

Our letter to RM Butt (attached) calls for an investigation of such matters. The Local reminds members that the Fire Service may require a medical certificate for an Uncertificated Sick Leave, providing they have reasonable grounds to suspect that the sick leave being taken by the member is not genuine, and they agree to meet any reasonable expenses of the member in obtaining the proof.

For any other certificated sick leave that a member may have taken in accordance with all contractual obligations, the reason for the sick leave is strictly confidential between the member and the medical practitioner.

The Local invites any member who has been contacted by the employer with regard to sick leave usage to forward their concerns to a committee member or the Union Office.

Members will be advised as and when more information is available.
