Notification to Rosters when applying for an ALT Leave day

This notice is to remind staff of the principles agreed to between the NZFS and the Union regarding the taking of ALT days.

Section 2.7.4.1 of our contract states that “The worker shall first seek the agreement of their Chief Fire Officer to the timing of the alternative holiday.”

Section 2.7.4.2 of the Contract states that ( subject to section 58 of the Holidays Act), the “…Union shall assist the Fire Service to ensure that each worker exercises consideration in the taking of alternate holidays and fully appreciate the impact of taking leave at a time that would put the maintenance of minimum staffing levels at jeopardy.”

One of the most effective ways individuals can assist in this matter is to ensure early notification of your intent to take an ALT day’s leave. With increasing pressures upon Rosters to fill callback requests clearly the earlier you apply the greater the probability that it can be filled.

The Auckland Local President election closed at 1700 hours Friday with 89% of those eligible to vote taking part.
