The NZPFU has called off today’s strike as multiple crews are working at a fatal house fire in Auckland this morning.

We pay our respects to the family and community affected by this tragic loss of life.

We also recognise the impact on those responding and will continue to work at the scene including the fire investigation team.

Last week we cancelled a strike for the same reasons in Christchurch.

The loss of life in these circumstances are tragic and the withdrawal of the strike is just one way in which we can support our members.

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary
