The NZPFU National Committee has called off tomorrow’s full stoppage strike scheduled for one-hour from 7.30am tomorrow (Monday) morning.

As Cyclone Vaianu continues down the North Island, our members deserve support while they focus on responding to their communities. Some communities, like Whangārei and further North, Bay of Plenty, Coromandel, Tairāwhiti, and Hawke’s Bay have been hammered by extreme weather events this year and are copping it again. Almost all of the North Island is under either weather warnings or watches.

We have members deployed across the country in various teams as well as crews in their usual response areas poised for the predicted onslaught of calls.

Ironically, the Coronial Inquiry into Cyclone Gabrielle which was scheduled to continue tomorrow has been delayed due to the forecasted impact of Cyclone Vaianu.

Hopefully the worst of the weather will be over by the morning, but our members will be exhausted or helping with the clean-up.

The next strike is scheduled for  one hour from 12 noon on Friday 17 April 2026.
