It is time to have a national round of membership meetings for bargaining purposes.

The NZPFU and FENZ are currently discussing proposals in bargaining.  The parties meet again on the 3rd and 4th July 2024 where we expect to continue those discussions and by conclusion of those two days there may be an offer to discuss with the membership.

In preparation, we are organising face to face meetings to be held in every Local to update on the bargaining and hold any ballots the National Committee think necessary.

First we are having a VC meeting with Local Secretaries and Presidents this Thursday night to prepare for those membership meetings.  The newly elected Local officials do not take up their positions until 1 August 2025 so only the current officials have been invited to the meeting.  We understand that some Locals may wish to involve incoming new officials in preparation which they are welcome to do so.

The National Secretary, President and Vice President will attend all membership meetings.  The Branch representatives will attend the Local meetings in their branches when they are available to do so.  We have drafted a schedule of Local membership meetings which we will release on Thursday.

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary

NZPFU GIVES FENZ NOTICE OF RIGHT TO DEPLOY PARNELL 255

Since the last NZPFU notice Auckland Local representatives have met with District Manager Vaughan Mackereth to discuss his direction not to deploy the aerial appliance Parnell 255 unless confirmed fire.

Mr Mackereth refused to withdraw his instruction, threatened industrial action for those that did not comply with his instruction and refused to other alternatives to address aspects of the health and safety implications of his instruction.

Today the NZPFU notified FENZ that Officers had the right on health and safety grounds to deploy the heavy aerial in accordance of their training and experience, regardless of confirmed fire.
