WATCH LIVE FROM 1PM

ONE HOUR STRIKES CONTINUE TODAY

The Parliamentary Governance and Administration Select Committee will continue to hear from submitters on the state of FENZ fleet from 1pm today.

The Committee will be sitting every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm until further notice to hear from those that lodged submissions into the Inquiry into FENZ fleet and related issues.

Every week go to https://www3.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/list-of-submitters to see who is appearing.  Today the submitters include the NZPFU, UFBA and Wellington Local.

To watch live at 1pm go here. The same link includes video of previous hearings including FENZ CE Kerry Gregory, Deputy National Commander Megan Stiffler, Board Chair Rebecca Keoghan and DCE Corporate Services Darryl Purdy.

The NZPFU has yet to receive a response from Kerry Gregory on the release of NZPFU members appearing before the Committee.  Most will appear by video but those in Wellington also have the option of appearing in person.  FENZ has publicly said they welcomed the inquiry and wanted to get all relevant information to the Committee.  The NZPFU has written to FENZ putting those comments to them stating that FENZ should then be ensuring our members can appear including releasing those on duty.  Any member having any issue with being released to appear should contact the National Secretary Wattie Watson.

ONE HOUR STRIKES CONTINUE

NZPFU members walk off the job again today for one hour from 4.30pm.  FENZ is refusing to present an offer that Kerry Gregory said in March 2026 they were working on.  FENZ has demonstrated that they will not manage the organisation effectively and as in 2022, they refused to move until they were forced to by political pressure.

That pressure is mounting with the select committee inquiry into the fleet management just the start.  FENZ CE Kerry Gregory, outgoing Board Chair Rebecca Keoghan, DCE Corporate Services Darryl Purdy and Deputy National Commander Megan Stiffer were unable to answer many obvious questions put to them before that Committee.  FENZ senior management have repeatedly failed to present the full and accurate picture of the failing fleet, the issues with the new appliances and the impact on emergency response and the protection of the community.

The NZPFU membership will be out and about during the one-hour strike and at other times to raise the petition for a full and independent inquiry into FENZ.  To sign that petition or learn more about it go to www.direemergency.nz/help

Friday 29 May 12 noon to 1pm
Friday 5 June 12 noon to 1pm
Saturday 6 June 12 noon to 1pm

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary
