After 47 years of dedicated service, Senior Station Officer Sulu Devoe has made the decision to retire. Sulu has been a strong advocate for NZPFU members’ rights and terms and conditions of employment. He would always put firefighter safety and wellbeing front and centre, never failing to raise concerns with Fire and Emergency Management, sometimes ruffling feathers in the process.

Sulu was a member of the Auckland Local Committee for many years, including serving as the Auckland Local President throughout the tumultuous and uncertain Covid times. His leadership and guidance working with the then Fire and Emergency Management helped ensure the safety and wellbeing of the membership and the continued response of fire engines to emergencies throughout Auckland.

Sulu’s dedication to the membership was recognised by the Auckland Local’s nomination, and the NZPFU National Conference acceptance, to him receiving a Life Honorary Membership of the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union.

The Auckland Local would like to extend to Sulu our heartfelt thanks and congratulations on his many years of service and our best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement.
