TRIENNIAL NATIONAL ELECTIONS

UNION PRESIDENT AND UNION VICE PRESIDENT

Nominations are called for:

  • The position of Union President
  • The position of Union Vice President

Candidates must be nominated and seconded by financial members of the union using the approved nomination form. Candidates may also submit a biography and photograph with their nomination which will be provided to members prior to any voting.

The nomination form and the NZPFU Charter are attached and can also be downloaded from the NZPFU website under  “Resources”  and then “Files for Download”.  The nomination form and the NZPFU Charter can also be sent to any member upon request to wellington@nzpfu.org.nz

Nominations must be received by the Union Returning Officer no later than 4.00pm on 31 May 2024

Completed nomination forms and biographies can delivered to the Union Returning Officer by:

  • email to wellington@nzpfu.org.nz;  or
  • post to The Returning Officer P O Box 38213 Wellington Mail Centre Lower Hutt 5045

The Union President and Union Vice President are members of the Union Council, National Committee of Management and Conference.

Their duties and powers are provided in the Rules.

President:

  • Member of the Council, Committee and Conference.
  • To supervise the business and affairs of the Union, to attend and preside over all meetings of the Union Council, the Union Committee and the Union Conference, to keep order, to conduct the business and to decide all points of order;
  • To obey all such lawful instructions, and to do and perform all such lawful things and acts as may be given or required to be done by a meeting of the Union Council, the Union Committee, the Union Conference or by the Act and its amendments, or by these Rules;
  • To call meetings of the Union Council and the Union Committee where such meetings are required or permitted to be called under these Rules, but where the Union Secretary is unable to, or has failed to call such meetings;
  • To do and perform such other lawful duties as may usually appertain to the office of Union President.
  • To be a Trustee of the Union funds and assets as provided in these Rules.

Vice President:

  • Member of the Council, Committee and Conference.
  • To assist the Union President in carrying out of the duties appertaining to that office;
  • In the absence of the Union President, to exercise all the powers and perform all the duties of the Union President.
  • To be a Trustee of the Union funds and assets as provided in these Rules.

Kawerau Local Vice President Election Result

In accordance with the NZPFU Rules, Kawerau members are informed that Paul Newbold has been elected Local Vice President.


Auckland Local Committee Declaration

The NZPFU Conference in 2022 agreed to a Rule change that provided that the Auckland Local could have a committee of 20 including the three Offices of Local President, Secretary and Vice President. The recent elections of the Auckland Local President and Vice President impacted on the number of nominees for the Auckland Local Committee resulting in the Local Committee now being declared.
