It is with great sadness that we notify members of the passing of NZPFU Life Member and highly respected retired SSO Ian Richards.

Auckland Local’s nomination of SSO Richards for Honorary Life Membership was unanimously agreed by the NZPFU Conference in 2025. Accolades at the Conference included his support and advocacy of Auckland Local members throughout his career. He was known for giving guidance and encouragement as disputes were waged and won. Many attribute their careers to his recruitment and support. He was considered a decent and loyal friend and colleague to many.

Ian was also a talented sportsman, representing New Zealand at the highest levels of cycling and promoting sports and fitness within the workplace.

The NZPFU membership sends their support and condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.

A service celebrating his life will be held from 2:30 pm this Thursday (23 April) at the Auckland Irish Club in Fowlds Park, Rocky Nook Avenue, Morningside, Auckland.

Undress uniform or smart casual is requested.

Please make sure to park in the surrounding streets, as the limited parking at the Irish Club will be reserved for family and close friends.
