We are sadly informing NZPFU members that Honorary Life Member Vern Greenham has passed away.

The NZPFU considered Vern’s death a line of duty death due to occupational cancer.

Vern was a well-known and highly regarded identity within the Wellington Local.

He gallantly fought for the NZPFU membership during the 1990s troubles and served his communities for 50 years as a career firefighter in both the UK and NZ.

His humour and camaraderie will be greatly missed.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held from 1.30pm  Wednesday 18 February 2026 at the Southward Car Museum, 250 Otaihanga Road, Kapiti.

In respect of the families wishes, Firefighters are asked to wear Level 1 turnout uniform.

For those that cannot attend the service will be livestreamed through the Kapiti Coast Funeral Home website.

All messages to The Greenham Family, P O Box 119, Paraparaumu, 5254.
