On behalf of the Hamilton Local, we are deeply saddened to advise members of the passing of our colleague, friend, and union brother, Callan Stewart.
Callan dedicated his life to serving his community and supporting others.
Prior to taking up his Volunteer Support Officer role in the Waikato, he served in the Auckland Brigade and remained a proud and longstanding member of the NZPFU throughout his career. His commitment to firefighters, volunteers, and the communities he served was unwavering.
Many of us had the privilege of working alongside Callan and witnessed firsthand his professionalism, leadership, humour, and genuine care for people. He was respected across the organisation and made a lasting contribution to Fire and Emergency New Zealand and the wider fire service family.
Our thoughts are with Ngaire, Callan’s family, friends, colleagues, and the members of the Kawhia Brigade during this incredibly difficult time.
Moe mai rā e hoa. Thank you for your service, your friendship, and your dedication to others. You will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Further details will follow.
