Consultation Submissions

Members are reminded of the pitfalls of undertaking project work for Districts and Region which culminate in submissions.

It is not the Union’s place to stop this process but too often the union is not involved in, or even aware of these processes.

The Union will be writing to the CFO group asking that the Union be kept appraised of all working parties, projects and in fact will ask that the any project Terms of Reference have Union Committee Consultation as an integral part.

It is vitally important for those members to remember that what is written in any submissions has ramifications on the brigade and other Union members that may not be fully appreciated at the time.

It is important for all members to contact the Local Union at all times when asked to be on a project team or undertake some form of research study.

Members are asked that they contact any of the Local Union Committee as listed top of this page for advice and perusal of any and all reports to be submitted.

SMS Reports for CFO’s

Members are again advised that they should feel no compulsion at all to write SMS reports (as requested in Wgtn District by DCFO Jackson e mail 18 November 2005).

This has been thrashed out before with other CFO’s and National SMS people. The CFO’s are well capable of producing their own SMS reports should they choose to do so.

The SMS system will not allow reports to be generated on building files but that is not the problem of Union members on the floor!

CFO’s can, if they choose to, use the feedback button like the rest of us when the program doesn’t do what we want it to do.

The Union was promised at SMS’s inception, that this would be the end of endless report writing and doubling up of work effort. This is exactly against the intent of the SMS system and members should have no hesitation in advising CFO Jackson that you will not be providing him with his reports, as he can get what he needs from the system and if he can’t? Not your fault.
