The five Auckland NZPFU Representatives on the Auckland Working Group are currently visiting stations in Areas 3, 4 and 5 (including Comms and R1TC) to inform members of an upcoming electronic survey due for release in a few weeks.

The aim of the survey is to identify key themes around why it is difficult to live and work as a firefighter for FENZ in Auckland and what you see as possible solutions.

The questions are currently being finalised by the NZPFU representatives with input from the wider Working Group which consists of Area Managers, Business Analysts and Survey Specialists. The questions will be in a statement format which you can agree or disagree with, and provide comments. There will be roughly seven questions and we are hoping to make these available prior to the survey being released. The survey will be open for 3 weeks to try and catch people on leave.

It is very important to us that you take time to consider the issues you may face and think about how you will answer the survey.

The survey will be emailed to personnel via your FENZ email and you will have to log on and complete the survey online. An unfortunate limitation of the survey software means you cannot go back to a previous question, however, there will be an open comments section at the end. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the five reps and we will ensure your concern is presented to the Working Group.

We will be conducting research based on issues identified in the survey, and we will be looking to members for possible solutions. Recommendations will be presented to the SLT in a report around July/August 2019.

It is important to us that members know they will be consulted at every stage of the process and we see no benefit in keeping research and statistics a secret. As reports and stats become available, as much as possible we will make these available to you. We also want to reiterate that we are doing our utmost to ensure this Working Group is driven from the ‘shop floor’ i.e. the people most affected by Auckland issues.

We encourage all members to please fill out the survey. The results of the survey will provide us a starting point to make recommendations of possible solutions to issues facing career staff in Auckland.

Again, if you have any queries or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact any of the Representatives.
