It is with great sadness that the Hamilton Fire Brigade announce the passing of Senior Firefighter, Patrick 'Sarj' Sarjeant.

Patrick joined the NZ Fire Service in 1996 following a career with the NZ Armed Forces and served in Gisborne and South Auckland before transferring to Hamilton in 2008.

Many will know Pat by working alongside him but also through his participation in Fire and Emergency sporting events.

Our sincere condolences go out to Pat’s wife Nicole, children Jessica, Caiden, Brodie and Kourtney, and all of his whanau.

A funeral service will be held for Patrick on Friday 12 July 2019, at the Pavilion, Hamilton Gardens, Hungerford Cres, Hamilton at 12.00pm.

Fire and Emergency personnel are requested to wear full dress uniform, no caps.

Fire and Emergency NZ personnel and family are welcome to attend a “Final Call” for Patrick at Hamilton Fire Station at 10.45am before the funeral. Please be aware of limited parking at the fire station.

NZPFU GIVES FENZ NOTICE OF RIGHT TO DEPLOY PARNELL 255

Since the last NZPFU notice Auckland Local representatives have met with District Manager Vaughan Mackereth to discuss his direction not to deploy the aerial appliance Parnell 255 unless confirmed fire.

Mr Mackereth refused to withdraw his instruction, threatened industrial action for those that did not comply with his instruction and refused to other alternatives to address aspects of the health and safety implications of his instruction.

Today the NZPFU notified FENZ that Officers had the right on health and safety grounds to deploy the heavy aerial in accordance of their training and experience, regardless of confirmed fire.
