The NZPFU has issued a notice of new industrial action commencing on 23 March 2026.

The new industrial action does not affect emergency response and is primarily bans on administrative and other functions and tasks that is unlikely to be noticed by the general public.

The NZPFU continues to issue strike notices for the one-hour strikes commencing 12 noon on Mondays and Fridays.

The new strike action, and continued one-hour strikes was voted up by more than 93% of members attending 25 membership meetings in February across the 19 Locals across New Zealand.

The NZPFU has also written to FENZ setting out the resolve of the united NZPFU membership to continue to fight for a fair and reasonable collective agreement that includes the necessary safe systems of work.  The NZPFU proposed a process that would involve a third party who was integral to settling the 2022 bargaining dispute in a bid to have progress particularly on issues integral to the structure of a settlement.  Due to their involvement in 2022, that Party is well-equipped to understand the issues from both sides of the table and unique circumstances of the work our members undertake in protecting the community.

We will keep members informed of any developments in getting back to the bargaining table.

In unity,
Wattie Watson
National Secretary
