Volunteer Placement Programme

Request from National Office for districts to participate in the above programme was forwarded to Chief Fire Officers in mid May. A key feature of the programme was that to enroll an agreement by consultation between career stations, officers, local union delegates and the Chief Fire Officer was required.

Both the Wellington City and Hutt City appeared on the firenet as willing partners without any consultation between local delegates and the two Chief Fire Officers concerned .

Notification has been given to both Wellington and the Hutt Chief Fire Officers that there would be no agreement from the Wellington Local NZPFU for our members to participate in the National Volunteer Placement Programme.

Local Committee Reps

There have been a greater number of nominations for the six Wellington District positions on the Local Union Committee. A ballot will need to be held to elect 6 Wellington district members. The Hutt District received 3 and will not require a ballot.

Driving hours

Members are reminded of the Union directive that Drivers refrain from driving the second shift when working a 24 hour period. It is the drivers responsibility to inform their officer or notify their rosters officer that they will not be able to drive.

A second point was discussed at the local meeting last week. Presently there are a number of members progressing through to became drivers. Although the local do not wish to limit members opportunity to advance they need to be mindful of the following long standing Union directive:

  • That members have completed two years service before becoming probationary drivers.
